Secrets to Making Your First Killer Information Product
Affiliate marketing is great. But whats even better is selling your own product. Look at it like this. You can do tons of work building landing pages, content sites, and in general figuring out how to sell a certain affiliate product. Then bam! The company who owns the product decides to change it. Or your affiliate network quits handling it. Or for whatever reason, youre dropped as an affiliate. All that work gone down the drain. But if you own the product youre selling, then no one can take the business away from you.
But it gets even better! If youre selling a hard product, then your commissions are probably in the 4% to 30% range. If youre selling your own information product, then youre making 100%. Not only that, but as you get better at selling your product, you can get other folks to be your affiliates. Now, thats leverage!
So, obviously, having your own product is the way to go.
If youve never developed an information product, you might be thinking that its much harder to do this than it really is. Also youre probably thinking that you have to be the world expert in your niche, too. Neither of these statements are true. As a matter of fact, theyre not only false, theyre the opposite of whats true. Developing an information product is easy. And, you dont have to be an expert. You just have to be willing to gather information and make it accessible for others. Theres a great quote that applies, In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is King!. Youre the one-eyed man! (Or woman!)
Now that youve been convinced you should create your own information product and that you actually are capable of this, you need to know what to make and how to make it.
The easiest information product to make is an e-book. You might be tempted to think that e-books are pass, but theyre not. Good information is never out of style. People love e-books when they learn what they wanted to learn.
Its easy to create a good e-book. That isif you can write. Not everyone can write, and not everyone who can write enjoys it or has the time to sit down and crank out a 40 page e-book. So, what should you do then?
Well, you have essentially two choices. You can hire someone to do the research and writing for you. That can cost anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars. Or, if you want to save money, you can do the research, make an outline, and then hire someone to finish the book for you. Or! If you want to save even more money, just write the book yourself, then send it to someone to edit it. (Not write it, but edit it!)
Now, heres the one and only secret you need to make your first e-book. Make sure that the content is great! Your first e-book is just a start. Once you get some folks to buy your first book, youll need to sell them more and more expensive products that youve made. So, look at your first book like a job application. Sure, youll make some good money, but the real money is in whats called the back-end products, i.e. those that you sell after the first sale.
